One of my favorite seasons of parenting has been watching my kids explore their unique gifts and talents as they've gotten older. In our home we have settled into a basketball player, and a performing arts superstar (the jury is still out for our 3 year old but I'm excited to see what she wants to try when she's ready.) If you have a child that is interested in the performing arts, you'll be happy to know their involvement in the arts helps them academically as well. I recently read a statistic sharing that students who are involved in the arts are 4 times more likely to be recognized for academic achievement. *from a study by Americans for the Arts
So when I heard that there was a new performing arts opportunity coming to Brentwood I wanted to learn more and reached out to Anne and Kailey, the founders of Delta Performing Arts Academy to ask them more about what made them want to bring this opportunity for kids to our area. Here is our conversation:
What inspired you to start your business?
Our love for performing arts and a desire to create a welcoming space inspired us to launch Delta Performing Arts Academy. I discovered my passion for the stage in high school—it was where I felt safe, seen, and surrounded by people who shared my enthusiasm. After over 20 years of teaching private lessons, I realized there was a real need in our community for a place where students could feel that same sense of belonging while getting high-quality training. I reached out to my best friend Kailey, whose experience in marketing and business made her the perfect partner for helping bring this vision to life. Together, we’ve created a space where students can grow as performers and feel part of a supportive community.
What do you love most about what you do?
I love helping students see their talent as I see it. Most students just haven't had the training or confidence they need to thrive. Once they can gain the foundations of their craft, they will grow in every aspect as a performer. Watching them finally get it is my favorite moment. Once that moment happens, they are unstoppable!
What do you love about working in the Brentwood area?
I love getting to teach in the same community where I grew up. Brentwood has always valued the arts, with strong theater, band, and choir programs that are supported by our community. I feel grateful to contribute to that legacy by working with students here, helping them grow as performers and experience the positive impact of the arts. It’s been wonderful to team up with Kailey, who brings her passion and talent for building connections within the community. Together, we’re able to create an environment where local students can truly thrive and showcase their talents.
What advice would you give someone looking for a performing arts experience for their kids?
When looking for performing arts training, especially in theater, it’s essential to find a program that values both artistic growth and a supportive environment. Seek out instructors who have strong music foundations and experience teaching—this can make a big difference in students' understanding and enjoyment. It’s also important to look for a program that emphasizes fairness and integrity, where roles and opportunities are earned through dedication and ability. Lastly, finding a place that offers age-appropriate training, especially in dance technique for theater, ensures students learn in a way that supports their long-term development.

If you had a day off and were staying local, what would you love to do around town?
