Park Review: Loma Vista Park in Brentwood

We visited Loma Vista Park located at 1051 Meadowgate Way in Brentwood and here's my honest review

School may be back in session but we still have a lot of park days left in us before the weather gets cold in a few months so this week we decided to visit Loma Vista Park for the first time.  I don't remember ever even driving past it so I didn't know what to expect when we showed up but it was the perfect place for us to get some mid-morning wiggles out.

My 2 1/2 year old and I ended up staying for about 45 minutes to play and we plan to come back with my big kids at some point too.

The Highlights:

  • It was very clean!  One of the cleanest parks we've visited lately.  Not only was the equipment clean, but it looks like they've recently put fresh tanbark in.  I was very impressed!
  • Lots of shade.  We all know shady parks can be hard to come by around here, especially with some of the newer parks, but this one had lots of mature trees that provided shade over much of the play structures.
  • The toddler playground equipment had quite a bit to do.  There were 2 small play structures, plus a wheelchair accessible Merry-go-round type feature that my daughter spent most of her time on.
  • There was a lot of grass for kids to run around in.  Next time we'll bring a picnic lunch.
  • Tons of climbing options on the big kid side.  I think I'm going to label this playground "the climbing playground" because of all the rope climbing, and the tall play structure tower.
  • It's 2 minutes from The Streets of Brentwood Shopping Center so I could see us making a full day out of a park visit and trip to do some shopping and eat at the The Streets.

The Downsides:

  • No bathrooms.  Bathrooms are the first thing I notice everywhere we go these days.
  • Even though there was a lot of grass, there wasn't a great walking path around the park.  We had brought my daughter's scooter but there wasn't a great place for her to ride it.
  • The biggest thing for me was the big kid's side had a climbing structure and slide that were so tall I'd be really nervous to have my kids on it unless they were much older.  You can see how tall it is compared to my little one in the picture below.  One of the drop offs seemed so high up that I'd be afraid a kid could fall and get really hurt.  I tried to steer my little one away from that side.

We will definitely be adding this one into our rotation.  I'll just be ready to keep my little one away from the edges of the giant play structure.

What park should we visit next?
