In our family, we're always on the look out for activities and places that will appeal to a wide range of ages because our kids are 14, 9, and 2. The 14 year old is past her prime playground days but will make the occasional exception when we stumble upon a park like Alta Park.
I had heard great things about this new-ish park located near Trilogy in Brentwood so we decided it was time to check it out for ourselves. After one visit I could see what the hype was about.
Here are all the reasons why we loved it:
- It has 2 playgrounds. One is best suited for younger kids (toddlers & preschoolers), and one that is best for the older crowd (elementary school age +, even my teenager had fun!)
- It's very clean. When we visited I didn't see any graffiti, or any questionable substances that I had to keep my kids away from. #iykyk
- It doesn't feel like a standard playground with a slide, climbing structure and a swing. There are some unique climbing features, a tire-like swing that can fit multiple kids at once, and, our favorite, the zipline-ish feature. It felt like we were taking the kids to a play place that you have to pay for instead of a free local park.
- It's a large park (about 2 1/2 acres) so there are plenty of things to keep the kids busy for a while.
- Shade! There are several shade structures over the playground so even on warmer days it's still bearable.
- There are picnic tables and benches so it would be a great option for a park playdate with friends and a picnic lunch after playtime.
There are only a couple of downsides:
- The biggest downside is there are no bathrooms. That's a big one for us. I know Creekside Park got restrooms not too long ago so I'm hopeful this park might have that in the works too. Fingers crossed because that would make it easier to make a day trip out here instead of just a quick visit.
- It's a little ways out and not really close to any other shops or businesses so if you're wanting to combine it with a walk to a coffee shop or an ice cream treat for the kids, that's not really an option unless you want to drive back into town.
Overall, we loved this park and will definitely be back! We've already told several other families about this one because anything that keeps my kids occupied for that long is something other people need to know about :)
