Recently we had a 30 minute gap in between after school activities so we stopped at the nearest park to get some wiggles out. We happened upon Egret Park located at 580 Eileen St. in Brentwood and, at first glance, it seemed like a good option for a quick stop.
I was excited about this one because it was located in a quiet neighborhood and we happened to be the only people there. But as we were wrapping up our time there, I realized why we were the only people there.... more on that later.
Let's start with the positives:
- Swings! Not all parks have swings these days, and this one had 2 big kid swings, and 2 infant swings.
- Lots of picnic tables and benches so plenty of seating.
- A large grassy area and a basketball court.
- A zip line style feature on the playground and several other fun features on the playground.
- Not on a busy street.
Here's what I didn't love:
- There wasn't much shade.
- The playground said it was for kids ages 5-12 and other than the swings there weren't many toddler friendly areas of the playground.
- No bathrooms
- THE BIGGEST THING: Once my son made his way up the ladders to the tall slides they were both boarded off. So there was no access to the slides. The slides were the biggest features of the playground so to have them both blocked off was a bit of a let down and honestly, made me a little concerned that the playground may not be safe if they needed to be boarded off for some reason.
Overall, it was a nice park, but I wouldn't go back until I know they've repaired whatever is wrong with the slides. It would be a great spot for a preschool/elementary school aged kid to visit for a quick park trip once the necessary repairs have been made.
