5 Tips for Cherry Season in Brentwood

Cherry Season starts in May!

If you have been in Brentwood for a while, you know that May means Cherry Season!  In case I ever forget, I'm quickly reminded by the long lines of cars pulling into the local Cherry farms this time of year.

People travel from all over the Bay Area for a fun family day at one of the many local U-Pick farms.  According to the Harvest Time Brentwood Website there are around 40 U-Pick Cherry Farms right here in Brentwood.  So if you're interested in a family outing under the Cherry trees, what should you know before you go?

I had the chance to ask Paul Stonebarger from G&S Farms to share some tips for Cherry season and here's what he shared:

1. Remember it's a working farm and still very busy during U-Pick times.

2. It will be dusty so be sure you're wearing something you're ok getting a little dirty.

3. There will be a lot of walking and possibly climbing ladders so wear comfortable shoes.

4. Be sure to take a look at the rules of the farm so everyone can stay safe!

5. BIGGEST TIP: Listen to where the employees tell you to pick or stay in the area that is open.  Most farms have different varieties that come at different times so while one section of the orchard is ripe and ready, the others might not be or have already been picked.

Oftentimes when people share the cherries they picked "weren't ready" it's because they went to the wrong area.

Ready for some cherry picking?  G & S Farms Opening Day for Cherry Season is Saturday May 4th at their Dixon Ranch Orchard located at 2315 Sellers Ave. in Brentwood. They'll be open from 8am-5pm!

I hope to see you there!
