The Bean Bag Dance for Your Preschooler

We’re loving the Bean Bag Dance and here’s why

By Kristi Ortiz, preschool dance teacher at East County Performing Arts Center February 18, 2021

“We’re doing the bean bag dance!”, children will shout out as they play along moving their bean bag from their head, to elbow, to knees and even tossing it in the air! This upbeat song is a fun and engaging movement song your little one will absolutely love to participate in. When learning to follow directions as the song tells us where to place our bean bags, children will develop skills that are essential in learning progressions in movement. Not only will they have fun, but families can use this as a great way to break up their day and engage their little one in a creative way. Wait, there’s more!

They’ll learn to:

1. Explore and improvise movement using the concepts of dance

2. Move to the beat of the music

3. Follow directions

4. Develop an awareness of how our bodies move

5. Song and play develop language skills

6. Teaches body parts I can go on and on to the benefits of just one 2 minute song.

I think you got it, but the most important thing is that the Bean Bag Dance is always so much fun for our 2-5 year-olds! Don’t have a bean bag? Not to worry, you can use items you have around the home, like a stuffed animal or oven mitts.
