Moving to a new home can be exciting and stressful at the same time. Moving with kids can present challenges, but fear not, I am here to share four easy ways to ease the transition of moving.
1. Check In/Talk With Your Kids
Talk to your kids, let them know what’s going on as soon as possible. Moving is a big deal and making them feel a part of the process is important for a successful transition. Show them pictures of the house, or where their new room will be, focus on the positives! One fun idea is having a calendar for them to mark off each day and you can check in with them each day to see how they are feeling about it.
2. Make a Plan
The week you move, make a plan. Aside from working with your realtor, arrange some playdates for your kids (preferably not at your house). That allows them to spend time with friends and family before moving and you can have some kid-free time to pack. Have your kids pack an overnight bag for the essentials for your first night in your new home. Let them pick out some toys/games to have with them.
3. Get Your Kids Involved
Recruiting your kids to handle simple tasks that need to be done will not only help you check off some things on your to-do list, it will help them feel included in the process. One tip is to color code your boxes by putting a colored label/sticker on the outside for each room of your house. Make sure your children know what “their color” is.
4. Keep it Positive
Keeping spirits high is key right now. Try to encourage and support your kids while they make the move with you. Have a “packing party” with fun music! Coordinate with Nancy on awards she can present to the kids for something positive they did to help with the move! Give them lots of opportunities to express their feelings, and let them know you are there for them.
Nancy loves to include the kids in the buying and selling process. She engages the children with exciting activities and awards for being helpful, keeping the home clean, and more. She believes in keeping everyone on the same page... kids included. She understands that this is a big adjustment for the whole family and she always adds a touch of fun when working with families!
Let's discover how we can help your family on your buying and selling journey.
